I don't just want to be a Guru. I want to be a catalyst for Getting Shit Done. I want to be that customer service fellow from Shopify that didn't see problems but did see opportunities. I want people to remember me as the guy who helped show how easy it is automate accounting, organize inventory, attract new customers, add great new products, implement a product review app, increase profitability, find the right logo design and build happy little empires. When successful Shopify clients look back on their journey, I want them to remember Sean Ryan Grove and the Shopify team as the turning point in their career. I want to look back at my journey someday and see the day I was hired as a Shopify Guru as the turning point in mine.
I see it as a starting point towards something really big but in all honesty, I don't know what that something big is? That being said, focusing on what I don't know isn't really in my nature. I do know that I love people. I do know that I have a an immeasurable passion for business. The opportunity to become an entrepreneur is a gift and I love helping others unwrap it. Over the past three years I've successfully helped 6 friends from different backgrounds with varying abilities do exactly this and there aren't many things that come to mind that give me a bigger sense of pride. It almost feels like philanthropy. To help one become an independent and successful entrepreneur is sort of like giving someone freedom. The responsibility involved when helping an entrepreneur shouldn't be taken lightly. You become a piece of people's livelihood, the well being of their children, the future of their family and in a bigger picture, you become an ambassador to helping keep a life long dream alive.
So as I digress and ramble on, it's really hard for me to tell you why I want to be a Guru. I don't really feel like one. I am and will always be a student. What I really want is to learn the ins and outs of your business. I want to meet the customers, see the problems, find opportunities to make things better and witness the successes. I want to help people. I feel that Shopify would be a great place to further my career and becoming a "Guru" feels like it might be the best place to get started.
