You had me at Get Shit Done

So when do I start at Shopify? lol

Well it's been a day since I submitted my resume and I was hoping to be getting shit done by now? Was it my lack of mentioning that Doug is a really old and wrinkly turtle or would I have earned a higher ranking in the stack of applications had I address it to Alexa?

I want to buy Doug Tetzner from Shopify lunch

While sitting by my phone anticipating a request for interview I stumbled upon an interview with Doug Tetzner about Shopify's hiring process and I swear that every time I read something new about Shopify I sort of fall further in love with it's business, culture and ideologies.

"we much prefer to find people who are great at what they do and are passionate about what they do, get to know them, and bring them in and have them grow within our environment."

It's things like this that make Shopify my number one choice as an environment to further my career. I'd like to lie and say that like the person from France in the article, I moved to Ottawa to work for Shopify. The reality is that I moved here to be with my girlfriend but the world works in mysterious ways and it could be fate that brought me to work for them. We have so much in common. I consider myself to be great at customer service. I'm passionate about helping people and I want to work somewhere that I can grow my skills. I try to do so on my own every day and would cherish the opportunity to be surrounded by like minded people, mentors, teachers and "Gurus".

Working from home is great but people are cool too

If there was one thing that I don't look forward to regarding this potential position as a Guru, it would be working from home all the time. I like people and have spent the past decade working at home as an entrepreneur. It's not everything people cracked out to be. Sure there are perks like not having to get in traffic and working from the comfort of your home but it can be stagnant in terms of personal and social growth. It's definitely not a deal breaker. I've done it for the past decade but sometimes you just want to give or get a good high five! In a perfect world I'd want to come in to work with a team half the time and then focus on Get Shit Done projects from home.

Cheers,

Sean Ryan Grove

The most expensive job application ever.  Totally worth it...

PS. You owe me 29 bucks Shopify!!! lol. When I added the code for my product review app, I had to purchase a monthly account in order to make sure it was working. I'm a little OCD so naturally, I just had to check it. It worked! :)
